Tax Planning for South Jersey Businesses & Families

  • Two people reviewing charts on a clipboard beside a laptop in an office meeting

By the time you're sitting in a preparer's office in March, the tax year is closed and almost every lever has already been pulled. Tax planning is the work that happens before that — and it's where the actual savings live.

What planning covers

  • Entity structure: Sole proprietor, LLC, S corporation or C corporation — each has a different tax cost at a different income level. We model your numbers rather than applying a rule of thumb.
  • Reasonable compensation: If you run an S corp, your salary figure has to be defensible. Too high and you overpay payroll tax; too low and you invite an examination. We document the basis for it.
  • Retirement plan design: SEP-IRA, SIMPLE, solo 401(k) or defined benefit plan — the right choice can shelter a large share of profit. We show what each one does to your bill.
  • Timing: Equipment purchases, Section 179 and bonus depreciation, income deferral, bunching deductions, charitable timing.
  • Life events: Selling a business, buying property, exercising options, an inheritance, retirement, a Roth conversion window.
  • Quarterly estimates: Calculated and adjusted through the year so April is an accounting exercise, not a shock.

How It Works

Most clients meet with us in the fall, once the year's income is largely known and there's still time to act. You get a written plan with specific dollar figures and deadlines, and we follow up before December 31 to confirm each item actually happened.
